Tunnel Hill Reclamation Landfill is now WIN Waste Innovations

2019 Was a Year of Improvements

Monday, January 6, 2020

As we end another year, we want to provide the public with a recap of improvements made at Tunnel Hill Reclamation Landfill during 2019.

New Disposal Area

In August, we completed construction of a new permitted disposal area. This project included installation of a new 10-acre composite liner system, a step we take each time a new part of the landfill comes into use. The liner includes an impermeable sheet of specialized plastic installed over a thick layer of clay to keep landfill liquid out of the groundwater below.

Landfill Gas Collection System Expansion

One of the ways we minimize potential impacts to our neighbors is by strictly following our gas management plan and investing heavily in an extensive network of gas collection wells and pipes. This system collects and sends landfill gas to a flare, where it is burned off. In 2019, we completed the 13th expansion of this system since 2013, and the expansion will continue as new sections of the landfill come into use.

Infrastructure Improvement

We have nearly completed important infrastructure improvements on the east side of the facility, including two new leachate storage tanks, new double-containment piping, landfill gas transmission piping and grass planting. These projects help us to handle landfill gas and landfill leachate more efficiently. We also completed new paving of the entrance road this year.

Local Commitment

Finally, we continued our commitment to the local economy, hiring four local employees and continuing to patronize local businesses.

In all, 2019 was a great year for us, and we hope it was for you as well. As we look forward to next year, we wish you continued success.
